In the assessment session, the EI and parents will play together with the child. The EI will prepare play routines that call on the child’s ability to demonstrate his/her Physical, Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Sensory, Cognitive, Play, Communication, Self-Help, and Social-Emotional Skills. Using a tool called the Hawaii Early Learning Profile (HELP), the EI will determine the child’s strengths and challenges within each developmental domain as compared with typically developing children of his or her age. The Early Interventionist will then recommend how often a family needs to come for follow-up sessions for the child to meet his or her goals.
